The HSLA, or high strength low alloy grades of steel are specifically optimized for their strength-to-weight properties. While still a carbon steel, trace elements are added to enhance material properties. As a result, HSLA 80 offers high strength and good bendability, with up to 20-30% less weight than would be required with the equivalent strength in carbon steel, and provides excellent weldability.  Classified according to its mechanical properties instead of its chemistry, HSLA-80 is formulated to offer structural efficiencies to take maximum advantage of its increased performance capabilities.
